Vipassana Centers – Dhamma Sumeru: Getting there

Dhamma Sumeru is accessible by car and by Swiss rail. The instructions on how to get there can be found at:  http://web3.test.dhamma.org/fileadmin/europe/ch/sumeru/content/docs/travel_information_english.pdf

More on the rail journey…
When you get to St-Imier train station, your next task will be to walk yourself over to the funicular railway of St-Imier. It is quite a nice 15-20 minute walk along streets which are partially cobblestoned. There are signs along the way, but if you get lost, just stop and ask. The people there are quite friendly, but make sure that you either a) know left, right and straight in French or b) interpret the gestures for left, right and straight correctly. If all fails, just keep walking upwards. You’ll either reach St-Imier’s funicular station or end up above St-Imier, in Mont Soleil.

For those planning to take the Saint-Imier funicular railway up to Mont Soleil, the timetable for the funicular railway (French – for translation use Google Translator ) is here: http://www.funisolaire.ch/index.php?page=p/horaires . It costs 6 CHF to go up and 6 CHF to go down it, unless you live in Switzerland and own a half-price ticket for transport. This funicular railway turned 108 on August 8th 2011, having survived a year-long closure in 2002 and subsequently complete modernization. For the curious and enthusiasts of funiculars and trains, Funimag has more details: http://www.funimag.com/funimag25/St-Imier01.htm

After the steep journey up the funicular railway, follow the signs to the meditation centre. Do note that it is an uphill walk all the way and some bits are quite steep.

You can get also try your luck in getting a car ride there. Or, if you are driving and have some space, you can offer transportation to those who have registered. The (German – for translation use Google Translator) website for this is: http://rides.server.dhamma.org/sumeru/

Ps, do remember to register early for the course that you want in order to avoid hanging on the waiting list. Some dates tend to get booked up very fast, especially those around Christmas and New Year.
